She & Him

I recently saw a commercial featuring Zooey Deschanel

Fabric of My Life

Prior to this commercial, I did not know she was a singer.  I had seen and really enjoyed her acting in ‘Failure to Launch’ and ‘500 Days of Summer,’ and thought that the ‘Fabric of My Life’ commercial was cute.

I discovered that she is part of a duo called She & Him, in which Zooey is accompanied by guitarist M. Ward; together they perform indie folk style of music.

Their CD “Volume One” features a variety of simple, mellow songs that highlight Zooey Deschanel’s soft voice.

As shown by their song ‘Sentimental Heart,’ She & Him do not sing the best and most complex music there is.

I definitely don’t foresee these stupid, sappy songs becoming a part of my top most played songs on iTunes, but who could ever hate on Zooey with that gorgeous hair and blue eyes?!

I’m jealous anyway…

Brian McKnight

Brian McKnight has always had a way with the ladies through his passionate, sincere music.  He recently released an album titled “Evolution of a Man.”

Like previous albums, the newest one (ironically) continues to feature heartfelt lyrics that capture the essence of who Brian McKnight is.

Brian’s music does not sound modern. Yet, somehow it sounds even less old fashioned, making his music very pleasant to listen to.

The song ‘Another You’ accentuates Brian’s beautiful piano playing skills while bringing out his sexy, silky voice, which combined make this song a highlight from his latest CD.

Is ‘Another You’ as catchy as some of his hit songs? Maybe not…

Does it still make a girl’s heart melt? Absolutely!

Lily Allen

I was listening to Pandora the other day and I heard a song that I had already heard on the radio many times but did not know it was by Lily Allen.

Although this song, ‘LDN,’ is slightly annoying, it is not the most horrible song I’ve ever heard.  However, I listened to the rest of Lily’s album and was rather unimpressed.

It seems that Lily Allen lacks originality, seeing as all of her songs resemble the same style that Nelly Furtado features in her music.

In general, there seems to be several similarities between these two musicians: both are originally European; Lily Allen is a natural from England while Nelly Furtado is a Portuguese citizen, and their music sounds exotic and has pop, alternative and ska (popular music that originated in Jamaica characterized by rhythms of blues, jazz, and a fast tempo) features.

Miss Allen has decided that she will not be releasing any more CDs; instead, she is considering a career in acting. Copying someone else’s style is always easier than coming up with your own.  However, being a copycat often signifies FAILURE, which is clearly exemplified by Lily Allen’s career as a musician.
